Warner Home Video kicked off August with the Blu-ray release for Going in Style on August 1st, 2017.

Theodore Melfi wrote the screenplay for this crime heist comedy film.

The movie is loosely based on the 1979 film of the same name.

The story follows retirees who plan to rob a bank after their pensions are cancelled.

The film received mixed reviews and grossed $84 million worldwide.


Fist Fight Blu-ray Disc May 30th, 2017

Warner Home Video closed out May with the R rated comedy Fist Fight on Blu-ray Disc May 30th, 2017.

Van Robichaux and Evan Susser wrote the screenplay for the film that features Ice Cube and Charlie Day.

The premise of the movie is that one teacher challenges another to an after-school fight.

The film premiered in Los Angeles on February 13, 2017 and grossed $41 million worldwide.


Collateral Beauty Blu-ray Disc March 14th, 2017

March 14th, 2017 marked the arrival of the Warner Home Video Blu-ray Disc release for Collateral Beauty.

Allan Loeb wrote and co-produced the screenplay for this ‘modern fable’ set during the New York holiday season.

The film follows a man who tries to cope with his daughter’s death by writing letters to time, death and love.

While the movie was largely panned by critics, it was somewhat successful in the cinema.

Sony also has a 4K Ultra HD release for Passengers that features Dolby Atmos and includes a Blu-ray 3D version as well, along with Paul Verhoeven’s Elle through Sony Pictures Classics.

Paramount Home Entertainment has Denzel Washington in the Academy Award nominated title Fences this week.

Watch for Will Smith in Collateral Beauty from Warner Home Video, who also have The Valley of Gwangi through the Warner Archive Collection.

Alternative and indie titles include a new version of the original animated Ghost in the Shell from Anchor Bay Entertainment, Canoa: A Shameful Memory from Criterion Collection, The Love Witch from Oscilloscope Laboratories, French movie The Lovers on the Bridge from Kino Lorber Incorporated, and Being 17 from Strand Releasing.

Lights Out is the latest horror Blu-ray unleashed by Warner Home Video, scheduled just in time for Halloween on October 25th, 2016.

Eric Heisserer wrote the screenplay for this supernatural horror film based on an original short film by David F. Sandberg.

The story follows a family that is terrorized by a specter that hides in the shadows.

The film has been a big financial success, grossing over $147 million against a budget under $5M.


Central Intelligence Blu-ray Disc September 27th, 2016

September 27th, 2016 saw the release of the Warner Home Video Blu-ray title Central Intelligence.

Rawson Marshall Thurber, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen penned the screenplay for this action comedy.

The story follows two old high school acquaintances who team up to save the world from a terrorist who plans to sell top secret satellite encryption codes.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart feature in the lead roles.


The Conjuring 2 Blu-ray Disc September 13th, 2016

The Conjuring 2 is the latest Blu-ray title from Warner Home Video, released on September 13th, 2016.

Carey and Chad Hayes, James Wan and David Leslie Johnson penned the screenplay for this horror thriller.

It is a direct sequel to The Conjuring from 2013, though is the third movie in the franchise if you count the spinoff Annabelle.

The story again follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Monster movie collections include Frankenstein: Complete Legacy Collection and The Wolf Man: Complete Legacy Collection.

Extreme Adventure Collection and Extreme Nature Collection are 4K Ultra HD IMAX titles with three movies in each.

The 30th anniversary is being celebrated with a new Blu-ray release for Aliens from Fox Home Entertainment.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has the documentary title De Palma this week, along with a new Blu-ray release for the Evil Dead 2.

Shout! Factory also has 4K Ultra HD IMAX titles this week, with both The Last Reef: Cities Beneath the Sea and Wonders of the Arctic additionally featuring Blu-ray 3D versions.

The Criterion Collection has new Blu-ray releases for The Story of the Last Chrysanthemum and the complete movie collection Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman.

There is an interesting mix with the classic silent German movie Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler, the 1948 Film Noir version of Road House, and the French movie The Measure of a Man from Kino Lorber Incorporated.

Other foreign and art house titles include The Fits from Oscilloscope Laboratories and the French movie Standing Tall from Cohen Media.


Keanu Blu-ray Disc August 2nd, 2016

This week I am taking a closer look at the Warner Home Video Blu-ray title Keanu – released August 2nd, 2016.

This action comedy was written by Jordan Peele and Alex Rubens, and features Peele and Keegan-Michael Key who appeared together in Key & Peele.

The film premiered at the South by Southwest Festival on March 13, 2016, and saw wide release a month later.

While it reviewed well, the movie was not as successful at the box office as hoped.

Foreign language movies include the French movie Marguerite from Cohen Media and Chinese film Saving Mr. Wu from Well Go USA.

Classic catalog titles this week include the 1940 version of The Mark of Zorro from Kino Lorber Incorporated and the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers from Shout! Factory.

Shout! Factory also has the IMAX title Humpback Whales with 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray 3D versions, as well as a regular Blu-ray edition of Humpback Whales.

Independent titles include the Tom Hiddleston movie High-Rise from Magnolia Home Entertainment.

Acorn Media has television releases Murdoch Mysteries: Season 9, and the Murdoch Mysteries Collection: Seasons 5-8.
