Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Tops the Blu-ray Sales Chart

snowwhiteandthesevendwarfs.jpgI don’t think that it is any surprise that Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the top selling Blu-ray title last week, though the margin of the win is pretty shocking.

Not only did Snow White sell more than 16 times its nearest competitor, it sold over two and a half times as many copies as the entire rest of the top twenty chart combined.

In fact the title was the top seller in the DVD chart also, with the Blu-ray Disc release outselling all the Monsters vs. Aliens DVD almost two to one and lead to a 17% market share for Blu-ray for the week.

I believe that this is the first time a Blu-ray release has topped the DVD chart – congratulations to all the folks at Disney on this excellent release.

Monsters vs. Aliens from Paramount/DreamWorks also took 2nd place in the Blu-ray chart, followed by X-Men Origins: Wolverine from Fox in 3rd place.

The top five was rounded out by the restored Wizard of Oz from Warner and the raucous comedy Year One from Sony Pictures.

Staple releases from Warner in the chart included The Dark Knight and Watchmen in 6th and 7th place respectively.

New release Trick ‘r Treat from Warner took 8th position.

A few odd titles were obviously boosted by discounted pricing, including Bullitt in 14th place and American History X in 17th place.

Other new titles that just made the chart include The National Parks: America’s Best Idea in 18th place and Contact from Warner in 19th position.
