Large Range of Blu-ray Deals at Fry’s This Week

Posted in Deals on June 1st, 2009 by Dave

commando.jpgI was looking over the Fry’s Electronics advertisement for the San Francisco Bay Area this week and was surprised at the range of Blu-ray products featured.

One the title side, Fry’s has a range of MGM and Fox titles for $11.99, including Commando, Battle of Britain and Cast Away.

Warner titles at $16.99 include Letters from Iwo Jima, The Departed and Ocean’s Twelve.

New releases Children of Men, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and True Romance are listed for only $18.99.

A 2 for $25 offer includes Warner titles like Dark City, Wedding Crashers, Constantine and The Lost Boys.

If you want a Blu-ray player, Fry’s has the entry level Sony player for only $240.

If PC playback is more your style, you can pick up the Lite-On BD-ROM drive for only $70.

Perhaps the most interesting item for me is the pack of 15 4x BD-R blank discs for $34.99 - at that price  you are looking at roughly $2.50 a disc after tax.

So it looks like the price of blank media has dropped abruptly - it will be interesting to see if the Blu-ray writer drives follow that trend…

Criterion Collection Blu-ray Savings at Amazon

Posted in Amazon Bargains on April 30th, 2009 by Dave

realm.jpgWhile would love to add many of the Criterion C0llection Blu-ray titles to my collection, in general they are a tad on the pricey side.

Amazon has helped a little this week by having a sale this week with 36% Savings on Top Criterion Collection Blu-ray Films, making these great art film releases more accessible.

Titles in the promotion include the recent releases Wages of Fear and In the Realm of the Senses as well as great savings on The 400 Blows.

Pricing ranges from $21.99 to $25.49, representing savings from 36% to 45% off the $39.95 retail pricing.

See the full list of discounted Criterion Collection Blu-ray titles after the break.

Many Titles Half Off at Amazon

Posted in Amazon Bargains on April 27th, 2009 by Dave

kiterunner.jpgI like sales as much as the next guy, but for me these days I am not really all that interested in Blu-ray sales unless they are half off retail or better.

Right now Amazon has quite a wide range of titles that fall into that category.

From Paramount and DreamWorks you can get recent releases like The Kite Runner, Things We Lost in the Fire, The Truman Show and A Mighty Heart for $14.99 and Babel, Top Gun and The Hunt for Red October for $14.49.

20th Century Fox has Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Max Payne and Stargate: Continuum for $19.99.

For titles under $10, look for The Proposition, Immortal and The Breed from First Look Pictures or First Blood, The Punisher and Total Recall from Lionsgate.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin and End of Days from Universal are also half off at $14.99.

Needless to say there are lots of options - see more titles at half off or better after the break.

James Bond Blu-ray Promotion at Amazon

Posted in Amazon Bargains on February 20th, 2009 by Dave

quantumofsolace.jpgAmazon is running a James Bond promotion where if you pre-order the new Quantum of Solace Blu-ray, you get a discount off the classic James Bond movies.

This promotion includes Goldfinger, Moonraker and The World Is Not Enough, which will be released along with Quantum of Solace.

The promotion saves you $5-$7 per classic title you order.

The best deals seem to be to get $7 off one disc, or $20 off three discs.

Complete break down of the savings after the break.

Robocop is Amazon Deal of the Day - 60% off

Posted in Amazon Bargains, Retailers on June 4th, 2008 by Dave

robocop.jpgWe see that Robocop is the deal of the day at Amazon today, listed for only $15.99 - a saving of 60% off the $40 retail price. I must admit I really like this movie, definitely one of the best that Verhoeven has directed in my opinion, and a steal at that price.

Remember to keep an eye on the Amazon deals this week - they are promoting High Definition gear all week!

Walmart Extends Blu-ray Support

Posted in Retailers on June 3rd, 2008 by Dave

walmart.jpgWe read over at Video Business that Walmart plans to extend its support of Blu-ray Disc by launching new dedicated sections in 1,200 outlets, and offering $100 store gift cards with Blu-ray player purchases in June.

The new ‘Hi-Def Blu-ray Experience Area’ will offer an increased selection of Blu-ray titles and new models of Blu-ray players from manufacturers like Magnavox, Samsung and Panasonic. Wal-Mart previously focused on Sony Blu-ray players.

Walmart will hand out $100 gift cards to anyone who purchases a Blu-ray player from June 8 through June 14 - discounted titles like 3:10 to Yuma, 300, War, Shooter and The Fifth Element will also feature that week.

The $100 gift card makes the Maganvox player effectively sub-$200 - quite a temptation for the bargain hunter!
