Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of May 27th, 2013

CleopatraDigiWhile this week’s Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery lacks blockbuster titles, there was a whole slew of catalog and indie titles.

The top title this week is the new Digibook packaged Cleopatra from Fox Home Entertainment, who also have Cleopatra in regular packaging this week.

BBC Home Video has the new Doctor Who: Series Seven – Part Two, as well as a single episode release for Doctor Who: The Snowmen.

One of the few new release titles is Dark Skies from Anchor Bay Entertainment, who also have a huge bunch of catalog titles, including The Star Chamber, while Shout! Factory has Rolling Thunder this week.

Art House and foreign titles include Mike Leigh’s Life is Sweet from Criterion Collection, German movie Lore from Music Box Films Home Entertainment, and Reuben, Reuben from Olive Films.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has a re-release of Despicable Me 3D and Despicable Me with an UltraViolet Digital Copy code this week.

Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of April 29th, 2013

SilverLiningsPlaybookThe last Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for April 2013 is again a little quiet, before things pick up big time in May.

Top title for the week is Academy Award winning  Silver Linings Playbook from Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Music documentary title History of the Eagles is out this week, and Amazon has a special edition History of the Eagles from Jigsaw Productions.

It is a big Star Trek week too, with Star Trek: The Next Generation – Season Three and Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Best of Both Worlds from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Paramount also has individual releases for original Trek movies, including Star Trek I: The Motion Picture and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

Seth Rogen’s new movie The Guilt Trip is also new from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Fox Home Entertainment has Broken City this week, while Sony Home Entertainment has Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl.

Look for Baz Luhrmann’s first feature Strictly Ballroom in a catalog release from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

Warner Home Video has individual releases for Friends: The Complete First Season and Friends: The Complete Second Season this week.

Over to classic cinema, look for Humphey Bogart in The Enforcer and Gary Cooper in Cloak and Dagger this week from Olive Films.

Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of February 25th, 2013

TwilightSagaBreakingDawnPart2A little bit of a strange week in the Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery this week.

On an unusual Sunday release, look for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 – Extended Edition from Summit Entertainment on March 2nd.

Today however saw the release of the latest P.T. Anderson movie The Master from Anchor Bay Entertainment and the Fox Home Entertainment surfer movie Chasing Mavericks.

Foreign movies were well represented, with Holy Motors from Vivendi Visual Entertainment, Sansho the Bailiff and Chronicle of a Summer from the Criterion Collection, and A Simple Life from Well Go USA.

On the music side, look for Eagles: The Farewell 1 Tour – Live from Melbourne from Rhino Records and BBC Home Video had the television documentary Africa this week.

Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of January 28th, 2013

DowntonAbbeySeason3In a quiet week, the top title in the Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery is the fiercely popular British television drama Downton Abbey: Season 3 from PBS Home Video.

Also this week Warner Home Video is releasing the animated Batman: The Dark Knight Returns – Part 2, and a huge Best of Warner Bros.: 50 Film Collection box set with the best Warner titles from the past 70 years or so.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has the animated Hotel Transylvania in 3D, also available in a regular Hotel Transylvania Blu-ray edition, and the crime comedy Seven Psychopaths this week.

Paramount Home Entertainment milks the franchise for another go around with Paranormal Activity 4, while Fox has a new Die Hard: 25th Anniversary Collection release.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment is digging into the foreign catalog with the classic French title That Obscure Object of Desire this week.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment on the other hand has a collection of underwater Blu-ray 3D documentaries, including Amazing Ocean 3DFascination Coral Reef 3D, and Fascination Coral Reef: Mysterious Worlds Underwater 3D.

Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of October 29th, 2012

Mostly small releases in this week’s Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery.

The top title is perhaps aptly The Campaign from Warner Home Video, very topical with the election just around the corner.

Warner is also taking advantage of the recent Dark Shadows release with related movies House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows this week.

Popular television series Copper: Season One from BBC Home Video is also being released through Warner, along with the direct to video sequel A Christmas Story 2.

Otherwise we have the excellent Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection from Universal Studios Home Entertainment – a must own for fans of the iconic director.

Other titles of note include Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby from Criterion Collection, Long Day’s Journey into Night from Olive Films, and indie movies Safety Not Guaranteed from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Ruby Sparks from Fox Home Entertainment.

Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of September 24th, 2012

We have some key releases in a ‘better late then never’ Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the week of September 24th.

Top title for perhaps even the year is the Blu-ray 3D release for Marvel’s The Avengers from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, with a Marvel’s The Avengers regular Blu-ray release also available.

This release could well set records for Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D with strong discounting at key online and brick and mortar stores.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment also has spider thriller Arachnophobia on Blu-ray this week.

This week also sees the release of the highly anticipated Bond 50: Celebrating Five Decades of Bond box set from MGM Home Entertainment.

Warner Home Video is releasing the animated super hero title Batman: The Dark Knight Returns – Part 1 this week, along with catalog title The American President.

Television title American Horror Story: The Complete First Season hits shelves this week from Fox Home Entertainment.

Over to art house releases, watch for historically significant This is Cinerama from Flicker Alley, Eating Raoul from The Criterion Collection, Danish movie Klown from Image Entertainment and German documentary Gerhard Richter Painting from Kino Lorber Incorporated.

While I will be in Australia for a while, I think I have cured my internet problems and expect to have more posts up … when I am not feeding kangaroos of course…!

Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of July 30th, 2012

The Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery reveals another quiet week of Blu-ray releases this week.

The top title is a catalog re-release with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Total Recall (Mind-Bending Edition) Blu-ray from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment also has the classic French movie La Grande Illusion this week.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has the mini series Hatfields & McCoys on Blu-ray this week, along with the movie Detention.

It is a Marilyn Monroe week from Fox this week with individual tiles like The Seven Year Itch and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, along with the Forever Marilyn Collection.

The Criterion Collection have a French film also this week with Le Havre and fans of Film Noir will want to check out Force of Evil and Body and Soul from Olive Films.

Lastly Shark Week is upon us again, celebrated with the Shark Week: 25th Anniversary Collection on Blu-ray from Gaiam Americas.

There is a big release for HBO fans in the Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the week of the 28th of May 2012.

True Blood: The Complete Fourth Season from HBO Home Video is the top seller title week.

Other day and date titles include Man on a Ledge from Summit Entertainment and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Indie titles include Coriolanus from Anchor Bay Entertainment and the hockey movie Goon from Magnolia Home Entertainment.

Over to art house and classic titles, watch for Ingmar Bergman films Summer with Monika and Summer Interlude from Criterion Collection, as well as The Strange Love of Martha Ivers from HD Cinema Classics and Too Late Blues from Olive Films.

Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of April 23rd, 2012

The Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for this week is a little lackluster, with just a few high profile releases.

Top title this week is the action movie Contraband from Universal Studios Home Entertainment, who are also releasing critically acclaimed Pariah on Blu-ray this week.

Warner Home Video is going the classic route this week with Camelot in a Blu-ray Digibook release.

Other releases are somewhat of a mixed bag, including The Innkeepers from MPI Home Video and the Blu-ray 3D concert title Satchurated: Live in Montreal from Red Ink.

On the British TV side, watch for the miniseries Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy that inspired the film of the same name. as well as Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Series 4 from Acorn Media.

For foreign language titles this week we have both The Organizer from the Criterion Collection and Let the Bullets Fly from Well Go USA.

Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the Week of March 26th, 2012

Certainly an interesting variety of titles in the Blu-ray Cover Art Gallery for the week of March 26th 2012.

Top new title at Amazon this week is family sequel Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked from Fox Home Entertainment.

Warner Home Video has a true classic this week with the 70th Anniversary Edition of Casablanca, with a new transfer and a boatload of extras.

Warner also has Whitney Houston movie The Bodyguard and Academy Award nominated Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close this week.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has a couple of indie style releases this week with Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method and Angelina Jolie’s In the Land of Blood and Honey.

Fans of the long running series will be pleased to see South Park: The Complete Fifteenth Season from Paramount Home Entertainment.

The Criterion Collection has two new titles this week with the early Titanic film A Night to Remember and the collection David Lean Directs Noel Coward.
