Hancock, Space Chimps and the NBA Headed to Blu-ray Disc

The Will Smith July 4th weekend blockbuster Hancock has been freshly listed by Columbia/Tri-Star, scheduled for a November 11th, 2008 release.

Retail will be $38.96, the Amazon price - only $26.95.

Fox Home Entertainment is planning to release Space Chimps and Meet Dave on November 25th, 2008.

Retail for both will be $39.99 - the Amazon price only $27.99.

No doubt with the holiday season in mind, Warner Home Video has listed the revised Polar Express/3-D, scheduled for an October 28th release.

Retail will be $34.99, the Amazon price - only $23.95.

Warner has also announced the release of NBA 2007-08 Champions for November 4th, 2008. Very interesting to see a sports release - something we have not seen much of to date.

Retail is set at $34.99, pre-order at Amazon for only $23.95.

Ronin has been freshly listed by BMG/Arista, scheduled for a September 29th, 2008 release.

This one looks like another import release.

The retail price will be $59.99, pre-order at Amazon for $41.95.

Funimation is releasing Samurai 7 - Box Set on December 9th, 2008. The retail price will be $79.98, pre-order at Amazon for $55.95.

Razor has announced the release of Mother Earth for November 11th, 2008. Retail will be $69.99, only $48.95 at Amazon.

MSI:TX2 is planning to release My Blueberry Nights on September 29th, 2008.

This one looks like yet another import release.

Retail has been set at $59.99, bargain hunters will find it at Amazon for only $41.95.

Cinevolve Studios is releasing Holiday Favorites with the Wonderland Carolers on October 21st, 2008. Retail has been set at $22.95, find it at Amazon for only $15.95.

Cinevolve Studios will also be will be releasing The F Word on Blu-ray Disc on October 21st, 2008. Retail has been set at $22.95, at Amazon for only $15.95.

For this week, Warner is kicking it off with a number of new catalogue releases, which interestingly enough are already one sale at over 45% off at Amazon!

Clint Eastwood fans will be happy to see the release of Every Which Way But Loose ($15.45) and The Gauntlet (also $15.45).

Mongol, Dragon Ball Z and Budget Boxes Coming to Blu-ray Disc

This critically acclaimed film about Genghis Khan currently scores 7.5/10 at IMDb and has made over $5M at the US box office.

Not bad for a movie in Mongolian!

Retail has been set at $35.99, bargain hunters will find it at Amazon for only $24.95.

For Anime fans, Funimation is planning to release Dragon Ball Z: Movie 5 & 6 on November 11th, 2008.

The retail price is $34.98, you can pre-order it at Amazon for only $23.95.

If you like big collections of budget titles, Platinum Disc has the Blu-Cube 10 Pack coming to Blu-ray on November 18th, 2008.

The retail price will be $73.98, pre-order at Amazon for $50.95 - Just over $5 each!

If you like even bigger collections of budget tiles, Platinum Disc has also announced the Blu-Cube 20 Pack for Blu-ray, again on November 18th.

This time the retail price will be $132.98, pre-order at Amazon for $92.95 - well under $5 each.

New on Blu-ray Disc This Week

Perhaps of most interest, Walt Disney Studios is releasing The Nightmare Before Christmas.

This wonderful film from the imagination of Tim Burton is finally out in High Definition with loads of extras including Digital Copy. A must have in my opinion!

The Nightmare Before Christmas on Blu-ray Disc is only $27.95 at Amazon.

Universal Box of Comedy, Prince Caspian in Two Blu-ray Editions

Universal Studios has announced Ultimate Unrated Comedy Collection for Blu-ray on September 30th, 2008.

The thing I like about the Universal box sets is the strong range of titles. This Box set includes Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

The retail price is more than I expected - $89.98 - or you can pre-order it at Amazon for only $62.95.

Today’s Blu-ray Releases include The Bank Job and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

First up is The Bank Job from Lions Gate - a film that I thoroughly enjoyed at the cinema and will be a ‘must own’ for me on Blu-ray. The disc includes a digital copy and is only $23.95 at Amazon.

Buy 2, Get 1 Free Blu-ray Sale at Amazon

shooter.jpgI see today that Amazon has a new Buy 2, Get 1 Free Blu-ray Sale.

This sale covers a number of studios’ releases including Paramount, Fox, Lions Gate, Starz, Image Entertainment, Funimation and even BCI Eclipse - 109 titles in total.

Perhaps a great opportunity to get some of those more obscure studio releases or Paramount releases at a decent discount.

88.jpgThe David Mamet movie Redbelt will be released by Sony Pictures on August 26th, 2008. Retail has been set at $38.96, frugal shoppers will find it at Amazon for only $26.95.

Sony Pictures also has the Al Pacino title 88 Minutes coming to Blu-ray on September 16th, 2008. Again the retail price is set at $38.96, pre-order at Amazon for only $26.95.

Mix of Music, Foreign, Anime and BBC Releases

In the Sci Fi corner we see that the Doctor Who spin off Torchwood: Complete First Season will be released by BBC Warner on September 16th, 2008. Retail will be $79.98 - the same price as the DVD set! The Amazon price - only $55.95.

On the music side, Korn: Live at Montreux 2004 has been freshly listed by Eagle Rock Entertainment, scheduled for a July 1st, 2008 release. The retail price is $24.98, you can pre-order it for only $16.95.

Tai Seng is planning to release Perhaps Love on July 29th, 2008. The retail price is $29.95, you can pre-order it at Amazon for only $20.95.

For Anime we see Afro Samurai Season One has been freshly listed by FUNimation, scheduled for a August 26th, 2008 release. Retail has been set at $29.98, bargain hunters will find it at Amazon for only $20.95.

It is great to see this kind of diversity in Blu-ray releases!

Bank Job, Anime and Emily Rose for Blu-ray Release

Fans of Anime will be pleased to hear that Funimation has announced Dragon Ball Z - The History of Trunks / Bardock: Father of Goku for Blu-ray on July 15th, 2008. Retail price is set at $34.98, you can pre-order at Amazon for only $25.99.

One of my favourites this year, The Bank Job, has been freshly listed by Lions Gate Home Entertainment - scheduled for a July 15th, 2008 release. This blandly titled crime thriller features Jason Statham and was directed by New Zealander Roger Donalson (who also directed The World’s Fastest Indian). The retail price will be $39.99 - pre-order at Amazon for $27.95.

As expected, Sony Pictures will be releasing Exorcism of Emily Rose along with the other horror titles on Blu-ray Disc on July 22nd, 2008. Retail will be $28.95, the Amazon price - only $19.95.

We also have a couple of titles coming from the smaller distributors - Umvd/Visual Entertainment is planning to release Postal on August 26th, 2008. This title will retail for $34.99, the Amazon price - only $23.95.

Also Life Before Her Eyes will be released by Magnolia on August 19th, 2008. The retail price will be $34.98, pre-order at Amazon for $23.95.
