Blu-ray Releases Scheduled Today - August 19th 2008

Walt Disney Video is trying its hand at teen related movies on Blu-ray, releasing Best of Both Worlds Concert: The 3-D Movie, which is $23.95 at Amazon, and Camp Rock: Extended Rock Star Edition, which is $22.95 at Amazon.

Paris Je T’Aime, A Christmas Story Ultimate Collector’s Edition and UFC Coming to Blu-ray Disc

parisjetaime.jpgThe first new listing is one that makes me very happy indeed. The excellent Paris Je T’Aime has been listed by First Look Pictures, scheduled for a November 18th, 2008 release.

This title is mostly in French and features shorts by twenty filmmakers, offering a wide variety of styles and genres, set in the various arrondissements in Paris. This film is simply a must own for anyone with an interest in foreign cinema and I personally can’t wait to see it again.

The retail price will be $24.98, pre-order at Amazon for $17.45.

Huge List of New Upcoming Disc Releases, Mostly Budget Releases

married.jpgWe are certainly a bit shocked by the huge list of new titles listed at Amazon today, most of them from small distributors, and many are budget titles from Blu-ray Only.

First up though, Married Life has been freshly listed by Columbia/Tri-Star, scheduled for a September 2nd, 2008 release. This movie features Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Rachel McAdams. Retail is set at $38.96, pre-order at Amazon for only $26.95.

First Look Brings The Code, Blu-ray Only Brings Budget Classics and Monster Trucks

thecode.jpgFirst Look Pictures will be releasing The Code on Blu-ray Disc on October 14th, 2008. The Code was directed by Mimi Leder (The Peacemaker and Deep Impact) and features Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman. Retail will be $34.98, the Amazon price - only $23.95.

A new budget player in the Blu-ray field is Blu-Ray Only - today we see announcements covering both classic movies and ‘man fare’ like Bull Fighting and Monster Trucks. All titles have a retail set at $11.98 and and Amazon price of $7.95.

Firstly Blu-ray Only has announced the release of Last Time I Saw Paris for August 12th, 2008. This title features Van Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor. The Humphrey Bogart movie Beat the Devil is also scheduled for August 12th.

Paramount Watch May 3rd - Cloverfield, Spiderwick and There Will be Blood

Paramount is planning to release Cloverfield on May 20th, 2008. Retail will be $39.99, only $27.95 at Amazon.

The Spiderwick Chronicles has also been freshly listed by Paramount, scheduled for a June 24th, 2008 release. Retail is set at $39.99, pre-order at Amazon for only $27.95.

Thirdly Paramount has announced award winning There Will Be Blood for Blu-ray on May 20th, 2008. Retail has been set at $39.99, bargain hunters will find it at Amazon for only $27.95.

It is great to see these Paramount titles finally appear. These will definitely help Blu-ray market share, especially the Day and Date titles.

Additionally Lions Gate Home Entertainment has announced Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns for Blu-ray on July 1st, 2008. This title featuring Angela Bassett will retail for $39.99, pre-order at Amazon for $27.95.

Lastly independent distributor First Look Pictures is planning to release The Proposition on August 19th, 2008. The retail price is $19.98, you can pre-order it at Amazon for only $13.95.

Wild China and War, Inc. get Blu-ray Release

Today we have a pair of titles due to hit Blu-ray in July.

Perhaps wanting to cash in on the success of Planet Earth, Warner is releasing Wild China. The BBC Documentary has six episodes that travel all over China to reveal the full extent and fabulous diversity of its natural wonders. Warner will release this title Jul 1st, 2008 with a retail price of $39.99. It is now available for pre-order at Amazon for $27.95

First Look Pictures will release War, Inc. also on Jul 1st, 2008. This title stars John and Joan Cusack and has not hit theaters yet but is expected to get limited release in May. With a hit-man theme it is reminiscent of Grosse Pointe Blank. Retail will be $34.98, at Amazon for $23.95
