Interesting to see that Tintin has made the cut for Blu-ray in France.
The iconic comic book character will appear in the 1961 movie Tintin et le mystere de la toison d’or on August 21st, 2008.
It is great to see the French distributors releasing ‘native’ material as well as the US made films.
I noticed today that quite a few more of the expected Studio Canal Blu-ray Discs have been listed at Amazon France for pre-order. Hopefully these titles will be intended to cover other countries in Europe and feature other language support where the primary language is other than English!
Titles include Paris on September 2nd, as well as La grande vadrouille, Basic Instinct, The Fog, L’auberge espagnole, La haine, The Deer Hunter, The Good Shepherd, Million dollar baby, The Pianist and Les poupées russes - all on September 23rd, 2008.
Studio Canal has some releases planned which are also starting to be listed as available for pre-order. Total recall, La légende du scorpion noir, Le pacte des loups, Babel and Terminator 2 are all scheduled for September 23rd, 2008.
According to this article, we should also expect Paris on September 2nd.
Some really interesting Warner box set listing have gone up at Amazon France, including the eagerly anticipated Matrix Box set.
Coffret Matrix Trilogie : Matrix ; Matrix Reloaded ; Matrix Révolutions is scheduled for October 22nd, 2008. Some of the other box sets include previously unreleased films including Coffret Rush Hour trilogie : Rush Hour ; Rush Hour 2 ; Rush Hour 3, Coffret Keanu Reeves : Constantine + Matrix, Coffret Secret Terabithia + Astérix et les Vikings and Coffret Gremlins + Les Goonies - all on October 22nd, 2008.
We are a bit behind on French releases, so here is the list with little commentary…
One of my favourite Aardman efforts, Chicken Run will be released on September 10th, 2008.
Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz in Bandidas on September 10th, 2008.
We have a few interesting titles from France listed for you today.
The March of the Penguins director returns with Le renard et l’enfant (The Fox and the Child) which is due on Blu-ray Disc on October 15th, 2008. There will also be a packed set with the Penguins film - Le renard et l’enfant / marche de l’empereur - on the same day.
We see three new crime thrillers listed for release in France - all of them actually French movies!
Les rivieres pourpres from Sony/Gaumont is scheduled for release on August 21st, 2008. This title features a couple of my favourite French actors - Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel.
Also from Sony/Gaumont, 36 quai des orfevres is scheduled for September 23th, 2008. This one features Daniel Auteuil and Gérard Depardieu, directed by Olivier Marchal.
We see that three Kirikou movies have been scheduled for release in France. While I am not familiar with these movies, they appear to be animated films and the DVD and UMD versions are released by France Télévisions.
The new Blu-ray discs will include Kirikou et la sorcière, Kirikou et les betes sauvages and Kirikou et karaba - all on August 20th, 2008.
Today I added a details page for both Amazon France listings and Amazon Germany listings.
Like the Amazon UK details page, this one will list a number of features as well as actors and director for titles where available from the Amazon database. This kind of information, as well as the cover art, can help a lot in identifying what the titles are.
I will add a details page for the US Amazon list also, giving some insight into the upcoming pre-order titles - details for US releases are not available in the main database before release day (though that may change also in the future).
We see a couple of new listings today at the international Amazon sites.
In the UK, ITV DVD will release Educating Rita, the 80’s film featuring Michael Caine, on September 15, 2008.
In France we see a Day and Date listing for the 2007 film Death Sentence, which features Kevin Bacon and Kelly Preston. This title will hit Blu-ray on August 26th 2008.
