Import Watch: Time Bandits and Leon Get European Blu-ray Releases

Posted in Amazon DE Pre-order, Amazon FR Pre-order, Amazon UK Pre-order, International Releases, Studios on March 13th, 2009 by Dave

timebandits.jpgI see a number of interesting European releases listed recently.

Look out for Time Bandits in Germany from Koch Media GmbH on May 29th, 2009.

In France there are a number of new alternate offerings.

Expect Luc Besson movies Nikita, The Fifth Element and Leon from Paramount Home Entertainment on June 11th, 2009.

Not sure about English language support on Nikita, though Leon (known in the US as The Professional) is likely to be a all region alternative to the Region B German release.

Expect Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla from Universal Studio Canal Video on May 26th, 2009.

This could be an improvement over the local Warner release which was squeezed onto a BD25, though it is hard to say for sure…

Also,  Traffaut’s Les 400 coups is being released by TF1 Video on May 7th, 2009.

This title is getting a Criterion release in the USA, which is likely to be the best choice for locals.

In the UK watch for North Face from Metrodome Video on April 27th, 2009.

Import Watch: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Blu-ray Listed in Germany

Posted in Amazon DE Pre-order, International Releases, Studios on February 9th, 2009 by Dave

goodbadugly.jpgI saw a very interesting new Blu-ray release listed in Germany today.

Watch for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly from MGM Home Entertainment on April 3rd, 2009.

I have not heard of any US plans for release yet, though this is perhaps a promising sign.

Fans of German movies may be interested to see U-900 coming from Warner Home Video on April 3rd, 2009.

This appears to be a U-boat comedy movie that came out last year.

Import Watch: The Prisoner Complete and First Six Star Trek Movies on Blu-ray Disc

Posted in Amazon DE Pre-order, Amazon UK Pre-order, International Releases, Studios on February 3rd, 2009 by Dave

prisoner.jpgLooking at the new foreign Blu-ray listings this week I see a couple of interesting surprises.

Firstly while I was saddened to hear of Patrick McGoohan’s passing, I am excited to see that planned release of The Prisoner - Complete Series on April 27th, 2009 in the UK.

While it is a little pricey at £43.29, I think it is great that these early classics are getting release.

Perhaps further indication that Blu-ray is going main stream.

The second surprise is news of a box set release of the Star Trek - Movies 1-6 from Paramount Home Entertainment on April 27th, 2009 in Germany.

We have seen other rumours about Star Trek releases in other countries including the USA, and this seemingly official notification is a great sign that these movies will hit Blu-ray this year to cash in on the new movie.

Another interesting release in Germany, especially for any folks originally from ‘down under’, is Kylie Minogue - Kylie Live X 2008 from Polyband on March 27th, 2009.

Import Watch Germany: Fight Club, Anna Karenina and Saw 4

Posted in Amazon DE Pre-order, International Releases, Studios on August 18th, 2008 by Dave

fightclub.jpgI see a few interesting releases in Germany from Kinowelt, HMH Hamburger Medien Haus and Ufa.

Fight Club and Dances With Wolves are coming from Kinowelt on December 5th, 2008.

Both could be very popular imports if Fox doesn’t get their act together.

The Hayden Christensen movie Awake will be released by Kinowelt on December 12th, 2008

Anna Karenina (1997), Little Fish and Heavy Petting (2007) are planned by HMH Hamburger Medien Haus for October 16th, 2008.

penelope.jpgHMH Hamburger Medien Haus also has Poor Boy’s Game and Da Block Party 1 & 2 Doppelpack coming on November 13th, 2008

Expect Penelope (2006) from Ufa on November 10th, 2008.

Germans will have to wait until June 30th, 2009 for Wall-E!

Import Watch Germany: Wall-E, Goonies, Gigi, Gremlins and Vampires

Posted in Amazon DE Pre-order, International Releases, Studios on August 7th, 2008 by Dave

gremlins.jpgI have neglected the German releases for a while now, so I will only touch on some of the more interesting releases in this post.

Die Goonies, Interview mit einem Vampir, Gremlins and Gigi are all coming from Warner Home Video on October 17th, 2008.

I expect that US releases will arrive in a similar time frame.

leon.jpgCertainly some interesting releases for Germany, including a bunch from Kinowelt Home Entertainment. Perhaps of most interest I see The Constant Gardener, Leon - The Professional, The Deer Hunter, Cliffhanger and The Fog on October 10th, 2008.

On the same day they have Basic Instinct, Rambo - Trilogy - Steelbook, Total Recall and Stargate.

Import Watch Germany: Indiana Jones and American Pie for Blu-ray Disc

Posted in Amazon DE Pre-order, International Releases, Studios on July 14th, 2008 by Dave

indycrystalskull.jpgSome interesting titles have been listed at Amazon Germany recently.

Perhaps the most interesting, Indiana Jones und das Königreich des Kristallschädels has been listed by Paramount Home Entertainment for December 31st, 2008. It really seems that the studios notify the retailers much further in advance in Europe - though I imagine that the US release will be the same day or sooner - perhaps sooner to get some Holiday Season action for what could be the top domestic box office release this year (Iron Man is still a little ahead).

hulk.jpgI have been a little slack keeping up with German releases and Sony has just listed a ton of discs, making todays list almost unmanageable! So, here are the new titles with little commentary:

Concorde Video is planning The Incredible Hulk for November 26th, 2008.
