This movie features Rainn Wilson, who is most famous for his Dwight character on the TV show The Office.

Looks like Fox has gone to a lot of effort on this release.

This movie pairs Al Pacino and Robert De Niro as New York City cops.

Magnolia Home Entertainment has announced the release of Chocolate        for February 10th, 2009. Retail will be $34.98, the Amazon price - only $25.99.

Zuffa is planning to release UFC: Best of 2008        on March 24th, 2009. Retail has been set at $19.98, find it at Amazon for only $14.99.

Tokyo Shock has Death Trance        coming to Blu-ray on January 27th, 2009. Retail has been set at $24.99, at Amazon for only $18.49.

Thanks to everyone who entered and contributed - I have some new ideas based on the responses.

There will be a post later in the week to discuss the feedback.

The ‘1k’ is something I have been expecting this month, while other stories foretold 1000 titles, counting both available and announced titles at the end of last month.

It was clear at that time that the release database here contained more titles than the ‘official counters’ elsewhere, and there are a number of possible reasons for this.

While there are the box set bundles, the discontinued and reissued titles as well as a number of titles that got announced but really never shipped, I think that the biggest discrepancy is due to the little titles that might not even have made it onto the radar for the ‘official’ count.

I know for a fact that the database here neglects some of the small releases that might have limited distribution, and I am working to try to rectify the situation.

On the other hand, there are titles in the database that don’t belong - a few that probably never streeted, and perhaps even the bundle boxes or the discontinued titles.

It is actually difficult to determine if a title has been discontinued - some retailers list a title as such where others list it as in stock.

Also, if they are deleted altogether, you would not be able to keep them in your Collection, which would be wrong.

I for one have the original Fifth Element disc, which is long discontinued.

And so far I have attempted to include box set bundles that were created by the studio and have their own artwork and UPC.

The best thought I can offer here is to tag and optionally filter the box sets and discontinued titles, and I might consider deleting the bundle box sets (though not intrinsic box sets like Spider-Man and Die Hard)

Universal Home Video has announced the release Peter Jackson’s recent version of King Kong        for January 20th, 2009.

Sounds like we will get both the theatrical and extended versions and lossless audio - so a big improvement over the HD DVD feature set.

The market share versus the top 20 DVDs remained at 8% for the week. While revenue slipped roughly 10%, it remained in the double figures, at just under $11M.

Get Smart was the top title for the week, followed by Journey to the Center of the Earth.

The ever popular The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man were followed by Kung Fu Panda, which was in 5th place despite having only one day of sales counting for the week.
