Twin Peaks fans can rejoice with the Paramount Home Entertainment release Twin Peaks: The Original Series, Fire Walk With Me & The Missing Pieces – on Blu-ray Disc September 20th, 2016.

In the show pilot, logger Pete Martell discovers a naked corpse wrapped in plastic on the bank of a river outside the town of Twin Peaks, Washington.

Sheriff Harry Truman and Dr. Hayward discover that the body is the popular homecoming queen Laura Palmer.

A second girl, Ronette Pulaski, is discovered alive but severely injured across the state line, and FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper is called in to investigate.

Cooper’s examination of Laura’s body reveals a tiny letter R under her fingernail, indicating that Laura’s killer likely murdered another girl in southwestern Washington the previous year.

As the authorities dig deeper, they discover that Laura had been living a double life.

She was cheating on her boyfriend Bobby Briggs with biker James Hurley, and mixed up in prostitution and drug abuse.

As the show plays out, Cooper uses his unique perceptions to delve into the secrets of Twin Peaks, with the ultimate goal of finding out who killed Laura Palmer.

The movie Fire Walk With Me serves as a prequel to the series, and covers the week before and leading up to Laura’s murder.

Twin Peaks: The Original Series, Fire Walk With Me & The Missing Pieces – My Thoughts

Twin Peaks Original Series Blu-ray Screen Shot 2

Twin Peaks was a fascinating show that features a web of deception that is wide, deep, and a little supernatural.

The show explores a small-town that appears respectable but hides a seedier life beneath that thin veneer.

Many of the characters lead a dark and secret second life, with a complex series of connections, affairs and nefarious plots.

The supernatural elements and off kilter tone is reminiscent of horror thrillers.

As the series progresses, many of the secrets are revealed, leading to the eventual identity of the murderer.

Lynch has since noted that the killer was meant to remain a mystery, but lagging ratings forced their hand.

All in all Twin Peaks is an excellent television show that is a must own for David Lynch fans.

This Blu-ray release, which combines the series and film with a large collection of supplements and cut footage, is a great way to acquire the complete archive of the show.

In 2014 it was announced that Twin Peaks will return for a limited series on Showtime, now due to air in 2017.

The new series is again written by David Lynch and Mark Frost, with many original cast members returning.

Twin Peaks episodes were directed by the likes of David Lynch, Lesli Linka Glatter, Caleb Deschanel, Duwayne Dunham, Tim Hunter, Todd Holland, Tina Rathborne and Graeme Clifford.

The show became very popular with its audience, earning an IMDb score of 8.9/10.

Twin Peaks: The Original Series, Fire Walk With Me & The Missing Pieces on Blu-ray Disc

The video on the discs is AVC 1080p at around 20 Mbps, and is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.33:1.

Fire Walk with Me is presented at 1.85:1 aspect ratio, as it was seen in cinemas.

While shot for TV, the image quality is actually pretty good here, with high definition transfers from the film elements.

The colour palette is a little strange, though that is not uncommon for David Lynch productions.

Certainly to my mind this is the best transfer for the show that you are likely to see, and it is great to see it presented in high definition so long after the original broadcast.

For full resolution PNG screen captures taken directly from the disc you can check the details page for Twin Peaks: The Original Series, Fire Walk With Me & The Missing Pieces.

The main audio is lossless 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio with 24-bits resolution at 48 kHz.

So all in all the show has been brought up to date with audio and video for the 21st century.

The discs are dual layer BD50, with typically as much as 47 GB used and are coded for All Regions.

The extras are distributed across the 9 discs in the set.

This version of the pilot for foreign markets is largely similar to the television pilot, except that a conclusion is added to make it a self contained television movie.

Some of the new footage was also incorporated into later episodes of the show.

Log Lady Intros

Each episode can be viewed with an introduction from the Log Lady character from the show.

There are promos for the the show, including a pretty in depth one for the repeat of the first season.

The promos appear on a number of the discs in the set.

A Slice of Lynch: Uncut – 55:33

This supplement is on Disc 3 and features an almost hour long discussion with creator David Lynch, actors Madchen Amick and Kyle MacLachlan and crew member John Wentworth.

Lynch has pet names for all three and Lynch asks them each to share how they became involved with the show.

He also reveals how he started working with Mark Frost, crediting Frost with at least 50% of the creativity in Twin Peaks.

The four reminisce about the show and much is revealed, including Lynch’s statement that the killer was never meant to be revealed.

This is a great supplement for fans of the show.

Season 2 Image Gallery

The image gallery for season 2 also features a collection of Albert’s Slides.

Again you can cycle through the pictures in each gallery with the arrow keys on the remote.

Cast members for the show participate and attendees get a tour of the show locations.

Location Guide

The location guide is an interactive map that shows you where the different locations for the show are relative to each other.

Of course the town is fictional so the map is not real, but it does help us to understand the intended relationships between the locations.

The Glastonbury Archives

The archives feature a collection of interviews and media for the show produced for the Artisan DVD release.

The Red Room speaking lessons are pretty funny.

All in all there is a lot of content here and it is well worth a look for fans of the show.

Most of the cast members contribute but some of the observations are pretty random.

Secrets from Another Place: Creating Twin Peaks – 1:46:13

This extensive making of documentary from 2007 is divided up into four parts that can be played separately or in one go.

The pilot for the show is covered in Northwest Passage: Creating the Pilot and the first season in Freshly Squeezed: Creating Season One.

Angelo Badalamenti’s ethereal score and singer Julee Cruise are the focus of Where We’re From: Creating the Music.

Lastly season two is covered in Into the Night: Creating Season Two.

The documentary features cast and crew interviews and offers a great deal of insight into the series.

The Season Two section certainly contains a lot of spoilers for the show so be sure to hold off on watching this until after seeing the show in its entirety.

The Missing Pieces: Deleted / Extended Scenes – 1:31:25

This is an extensive collection of additional footage from the Fire Walk With Me movie.

The more than 30 scenes run for over 90 minutes, so this is quite a massive collection of footage.

You can select the scenes, which indicate if they are deleted or extended, or watch them all in one sitting.

Archival Interviews – 5:25

Interviews about the movie with Ray Wise, Sheryl Lee, Moira Kelly and Madchen Amick.
