Warner Home Video Blu-ray has announced the 30th Anniversary Blu-ray release for the  The Right Stuff – on Blu-ray Disc November 5th, 2013.

The film was theatrically released in 1983 and was adapted from Tom Wolfe’s 1979 book The Right Stuff.

The movie covers the aeronautical research test pilots at Edwards Air Force Base and those selected to be astronauts for Project Mercury, the United States’ first attempt at manned spaceflight.

The ‘Mercury Seven’ were Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton.

In 1983 the film won four Academy Awards, including an Oscar to the Sound Mixer Randy Thom for best sound.

Warner will release the iconic film in a 40 page Blu-ray Digi-book, which includes rare photos, production notes and other material.

The cast includes Scott Glenn, Ed Harris, Fred Ward, Dennis Quaid, Sam Shepard, Barbara Hershey, Lance Henriksen and Veronica Cartwright.

The Right Stuff was directed by Philip Kaufman, who was also behind Rising Sun, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Hemingway & Gellhorn.

The film was met with stromg reviews, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 97% and an IMDb score of 7.9/10.

The Right Stuff earned $21.2M at the US box office.

This 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Book will be one of the few movie releases to boast Dolby TrueHD with advanced 96k upsampling to deliver a full-range high-definition surround sound experience.

Extras will include scene-specific commentaries with Philip Kaufman, cast and crew members, the 1998 PBS Documentary John Glenn: American Hero,  three featurettes featuring cast, crew and/or the real-life heroes from the film: Realizing the Right Stuff, T-20 Years and Counting and The Real Men with the Right Stuff.
