Lincoln to be Released on Blu-ray Disc March 26th, 2013

Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln has just been announced by Disney and DreamWorks Home Entertainment for release on Blu-ray Disc March 26th, 2013.

The movie was inspired by the true-life events confronting Abraham Lincoln and the monumental challenge to amend the United States Constitution to abolish slavery.

Lincoln is based in part on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s biography Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, and covers the final four months of Lincoln’s life.

The film was nominated for twelve Academy Awards including Best Picture, and it won for Best Production Design and Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis.

The cast additionally includes Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones.

Lincoln was director Steven Spielberg is legendary in Hollywood for films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Saving Private Ryan, The Color Purple, War Horse, Jaws, Empire of the Sun, Jurassic Park, and Schindler’s List.

The critical response to the movie was very positive, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 89% and an IMDb score of 7.7/10.

Lincoln was also a huge success in the cinema, reaching $180.1M at the US box office.

Planned features for the disc include an 1080p encode presented at 2.40:1, lossless DTS-HD Master Audio with 7.1 channels.

This release includes both a DVD and a Digital Copy.
