Lionsgate is Planning Crank and Gamer for Blu-ray 3D Release

CrankLionsgate is getting in on the 3D conversion game, starting with titles like Crank, Gamer, Bangkok Dangerous and The Descent.

3D Roundabout is reporting that Lionsgate has teamed up with Samsung to do the 3D conversions.

This is certain an interesting indication that Blu-ray 3D has gained a decent hold on the market and is still considered a growth segment.

With Disney an early entry into the 3D conversion market for theatrical releases like The Nightmare Before Christmas 3Dother studios have followed suit for the home entertainment market.

Fox released I, Robot last year, Paramount has Top Gun and Universal has Jurassic Park planned for 2013.

While Warner and Sony have largely stuck with titles that had 3D release in cinemas, certainly both have presented films that were at least partly converted, rather than shot in 3D.

One has to wonder how long it will be before many classic titles get the 3D treatment…!
