John Carter 3D has just been announced by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment for release on Blu-ray Disc June 5th, 2012.

John Carter is a science fiction action film that covers the first interplanetary adventure of the John Carter character.

The film is based on the main character from a series of novels by the famous author Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The movie also marks the centennial of the character’s first appearance in 1912.

The cast includes Willem Dafoe, Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins.

John Carter 3D is the live-action debut of director/writer Andrew Stanton, who previously directed animated movies like WALL-E and Finding Nemo.

The movie received mixed reviews, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 52%, while the public response to the movie tended towards the positive, with an IMDb score of 7/10.

John Carter 3D was a bit of disappointment domestically, earning only $69.1M at the US box office.

It showed strength overseas though, especially in Russia where it set new box office records.

A DVD as well as a Digital Copy for both iTunes and Windows Media is included with his release.
