The first weekend of December sees a Blu-ray market share of 20% according to Home Media Magazine.
The revenue for the week ending December 5th was a healthy $68.16M, up more than 60% over 2009 for the same week.
The top three surprised me a little, with Summit’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in 1st position ahead of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Fantasia / Fantasia 2000 from Disney in 2nd and 3rd place.
Knight and Day from Fox and Lionsgate’s The Expendables rounded out the top 5th, ahead of Avatar from Fox and a resurgence from The Dark Knight in 7th place.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse also surprised me with a high market share of 23% considering the audience, and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice did very well for Blu-ray with 43% market share.
Knight and Day also did fairly well in HD with a market share of 29%, while The Expendables took in 37% on Blu-ray Disc.
By contrast Eat Pray Love from Sony Pictures had 12% of sales on Blu-ray Disc and the comedy Vampires Suck from Fox had a 9% Blu-ray market share.
The Dark Knight was the strongest this week though with a market share of 73%!
