Two Girls And A Guy on Blu-ray Disc Released November 3rd, 2009

Fox Home Entertainment has delivered another intriguing new catalog title to Blu-ray with the November 3rd release of Two Girls And A Guy.
No doubt intended to be an edgy and provocative story late last century, these days the movie doesn’t come across as daring as when it was first released.
Two women decide to surprise their actor boyfriend by waiting for him to return from a business trip, only to discover that he has been dating both of them simultaneously.
Naturally when he arrives home, he has is a lot of explaining to do.
However what starts out as a black and white situation where the man is evil and has treated these women unfairly, as the movie proceeds, the lines begin to blur and what was once black and white becomes a little more grey.
I found the movie to be a mixed bag, with some sequences taking an intelligent look at the interaction between people and others that were too full of shouting or failed to move the story forward.
I also found the subplot regarding the man’s mother to be somewhat extraneous and I felt that it often harmed the flow of the movie.
That said I think if you like character driven films, this one is worth a look, with strong performances from Robert Downey, Heather Graham and Natasha Gregson Wagner.
No doubt the movie was a cost effective shoot, mostly set in just the one location with just the three main actors.
Two Girls And A Guy was written and directed by James Toback, who also directed The Pick-Up Artist and more recently Tyson.
The movie received a mixed response from the critics with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 51% and IMDb score of 5.5/10, which matches well my personal impression of the film.
Two Girls And A Guy also earned $2.1M at the US box office.
The video on the disc is an AVC 1080p encode at 19 Mbps, and is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1.
The image quality has that indie feel to it, so don’t expect reference quality image from this release.
Check out the details page for Two Girls And A Guy to see full resolution PNG screen captures taken directly from the disc.
The main audio is lossless DTS-HD Master Audio with 5.1 channels - 24 bits resolution at 48 kHz.
The disc is a single layer BD25, with 19.2 GB used and is coded for All Regions.
The disc includes both the R-rated and NC-17 rated versions of the film via seamless branching and contains a commentary with director James Toback as well as Robert Downey Jr. and Natasha Gregson Wagner.
There is also a new interview segment with James Toback on the disc, along with a theatrical trailer.
Two Girls And A Guy is an interesting film in some ways and is perhaps of most interest to fans of character based movies and dramas.
With very few supplements on a single layer disc, the Blu-ray release from Fox Home Entertainment is a little light weight compared to their usual efforts.
The retail price is $29.99, though it is a bargain right now at Amazon for only $12.49, saving 58% off the retail price!

Synopsis:
They’re as different as they are beautiful, but Carla (Heather Graham) and Lou (Natasha Gregson Wagner) have more in common than meets the eye. Each brags that she has the world’s greatest boyfriend - until they both realize they’re talking about the same guy! Sparks fly when the two girls team up to confront their lying, two-timing lover. Robert Downey Jr. is Blake Allen, the arrogant, self-absorbed actor who gets a double dose of girl trouble in this wildly provocative “look at love, lust and sexual commitment.” (Los Angeles Times)
