Warner Offering Upgrade Program - Exchange DVD and Money for a Blu-ray Disc

Posted in Studios on November 17th, 2009 by Dave

d2b_copy.jpgWarner Home Video wants to help you out by allowing you to upgrade DVD titles you already own to Blu-ray for $7.95 per disc.

If you spend more than $50, you get free shipping as well.

Essentially you use the web site to say which titles you are upgrading and pay for the upgrade, then send in your discs (just the disc, not the box) and you will receive Blu-ray copies of the titles you sent.

Certainly a great deal for folks who recently got into Blu-ray - perhaps not so great for those of us who stopped buying DVDs years ago, waiting for a HiDef format.

None the less, it is great to see a studio offering a cost reduced upgrade path to help folks move to Blu.

I think this is a great initiative which hopefully will be followed by the other studios. I have shelves full of DVDs that I plan to replace with Blu-Rays and am sure that there are many in the same situation.

I certainly have a lot of DVDs that I will probably never watch now that I have so many HD options. Getting a chance to trade them would be useful.

I have not checked out Warner’s list of titles yet - I hope that they are not being overly selective…
