hmm07.jpgThe Blu-ray market share was single figures for the first time this year in the week ending February 8th according to Home Media Magazine.

The revenue was up 61% over the same week last year.

While the 7% market share is lower than normal, the $11M revenue for the week was pretty much at the typical level implying more of a DVD gain than a Blu-ray drop.

New titleĀ Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa topped the chart, amazing sales for just two days, followed by Zack and Miri Make a Porno with roughly 2/3 the sales.

The top 5 was rounded out by The Dark Knight, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Eagle Eye.

Disney’s Space Buddies took 6th place, followed by Iron Man, Transformers, Max Payne and Lakeview Terrace.

New release The Secret Life of Bees took 12th while Friday the 13th took 15th place.

The per title market share charts indicated some of the problems for Blu-ray with respect to market share for the week.

While Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Zack and Miri Make a Porno took 9% and 11% respectively, other hot DVD titles Space Buddies and Secret Life of Bees only managed 3% sales on Blu-ray Disc.

Strong sellers Iron Man and Transformers retained 40%market share for Blu-ray while The Dark Knight and Eagle Eye sat around the 25% mark and RocknRolla exceeded 20%.

Overall I think a soft week for Blu-ray market share, otherwise pretty much business as usual.
