Would You Like VHS With That Blu-ray?

Posted in Players, Technology on January 7th, 2009 by Dave

ces-2009-image-bd70v.jpgPanasonic seems to be ahead of the curve, with a new Blu-ray player, the DMP-BD70V, that contains an upscaling VHS player as well.

The DMP-BD70V distinguishes itself as the world’s first dual deck VHS-Blu-ray player, providing the consumer with a video product that features multi-format playback allowing the user to play VHS, CD, DVD and 1080p high definition Blu-ray Discs.

The BD70V allows for premium 1080p up-conversion for all video formats.I am not sure who was asking for this, but Panasonic aims to deliver!

Wow — that is interesting. I know that people are still buying VHS tapes particularly to get their hands on movies that have not been made into DVD or Blu-ray but I would NOT have guessed they would want a combined VHS/Blu-ray player!I would have thought that those with a blu-ray player were actually at the point of eliminating their VHS player. I guess this would be one way of eliminating one piece of equipment…and some people do not want to lose their investment in tapes.

I wrote a page on how to care for aging videotapes at http://www.squidoo.com/rareVHStapes. It receives a small but steady stream of visitors. I also sell some rarer VHS titles on eBay so I know that there are still people out there buying them.
