Blu-ray Recordable Gets More Affordable

Whether it is to archive your TiVo HD Tivo To Go recordings or footage from your HDV or AVCHD video camera, the price of blank Blu-ray media has been somewhat of a barrier to using the format for mass archiving.
Recent price drops will help alleviate that problem. I see that the price for a Verbatim 25GB BD-R Single Branded Disc at New Egg is at a new low of only $8 each.
If you are a heavy user, Fry’s has the Memorex Blu-ray 25GB 15 Disc Spindle for only $90, and has had this item in weekend sales for as low as $60 in store, or $4 per disc before tax and no shipping charge.
At $4 for 25GB, this pricing is becoming competitive with dual layer DVD+R discs, and is reaching the price level where mass archiving to Blu-ray becomes reasonable … well to me at least!
Considering that market penetration for writable Blu-ray is still very small, I think that over the next year or two, the format will become very price competitive, making it the sensible choice for even data archival and computer backup.
