hmm06.jpgWhile the top 20 market share versus DVD was down to 6%, revenues increased over 20% to almost $11M for the week ending September 28th, according to Home Media Magazine.

Sex and the City was the clear winner for the week, with The Godfather Trilogy in a strong second position.

The top 5 was rounded out by recent releases TransformersSpeed Racer and Leatherheads.

For other new releases, L.A. Confidential was 7th, Madagascar was 13th, Blow was 16th and Run, Fat Boy, Run was in 18th position.

Surprisingly to me, Shrek the Third did not make the top 20 chart. Perhaps DreamWorks Animation lost quite a few HD sales when they released Shrek the Third exclusively on HD DVD last year, whereas Transformers is still a popular title a year later.

In the per title market share, a number of Blu-ray discs outsold their DVD counterparts.

The The Godfather Trilogy Coppola Restoration Blu-ray outsold the DVD version two to one, Predator outsold the DVD version more than three to one and L.A. Confidential sold slightly more copies for the Blu-ray version this week.

Other new release titles that did well included Blow with 44% on Blu-ray and Madagascar with 35% on Blu-ray.

Transformers managed 23.5% on Blu-ray Disc this week while Speed Racer and The Forbidden Kingdom were in the 12-13% range.

Run, Fat Boy, Run and Leatherheads were closer to the typical Blu-ray market share with 6-7% and Sex and the City managed only 3.37%, no doubt dragging the overall top 20 market share to its lowest in recent times…
