Import Watch UK and France: The French Connection on Blu-ray Disc

Posted in Amazon FR Pre-order, Amazon UK Pre-order, International Releases, Studios on September 29th, 2008 by Dave

frenchconnection.jpgI saw some exciting new Blu-ray releases listed on the Amazon UK and Amazon France sites this week.

The William Friedkin movie the French Connection will be released by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on December 1st, 2008.

Fox also has a French Connection/French Connection 2 pack listed for the same day.

If you prefer continental Europe, expect the French Connection and French Connection 1 + 2 on December 3rd at Amazon France. These are likely through Fox Pathé Europa.

I think that it is very likely that we will see these films released in the US in the same time frame.

Also in France, I see fresh listings for the French movies Jean de florette and Manon des sources (Manon of the Spring), both listed for release on December 3rd, 2008.

Again I am expecting these to be released by Fox Pathé Europa, which doesn’t bode well for region compatibility with the USA - or for English language support - though I keeping my fingers crossed.

Also in France and worth a mention are the releases of the Woody Allen movie Scoop on December 4th, Elton John’s Red Piano through Mercury on November 3th, and Les aventures de rabbi jacob on November 27th, 2008.

Back to the UK, I see further interesting listings there, including Futurama - Into The Wild Green Yonder from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on February 23rd, 2009, The Dark Knight from Warner Home Video on December 8th, and King Lear from Metrodome Group on December 26th, 2008.

French Connection from Fox in the U.S. would definitely be nice. I’d be out to stores at the speed of light to get that! And while we’re on the classic movies subject…how about releasing some of those Hitchcock titles on Blu-ray, Universal? Psycho and The Birds, anyone? Warner has promised North By Northwest for 2009. Can’t wait. Warner has also announced the first 4 Batmans for Dec. release in the U.K. Hopefully we’ll be getting ours then as well…

I have always thought it odd that Europe gets firm street dates before the US does, but it seems to be the case…

Another interesting predictor is movies that appear on HDNet Movies for the first time - they also often show up as Blu-ray releases.
