hmm06.jpgThe Blu-ray market share versus DVD top 20 remained at 6% for the week ending August 31st, according to the latest Home Media Magazine.

That said the revenues were significantly up, exceeding $9M for the week - a gain of almost 30% over the previous week.

Disney’s release of the The Nightmare Before Christmas was the top Blu-ray seller for the week, with Heroes: Season 2 selling roughly three quarters as many units, and What Happens in Vegas taking third. All of these were new releases that week.

Batman Begins and Street Kings rounded out the top 5, with Heroes: Season 1 coming in 6th place.

A number of older Warner titles were in the top 10, including Twister, 300 and V for Vendetta - hinting at a promotion boosting sales. Troy and GoodFellas were also in the top 20.

Also of note, The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior came in 11th and Afro Samurai: Season One was 16th - a good showing for a ‘niche’ Anime title.

In the per title market share chart, the evidence of a Warner title promotion is even stronger, with Twister selling over 90% of its units for the week on Blu-ray Disc - perhaps a new record - and V for Vendetta selling over 60% on Blu-ray.

Other high selling titles included Heroes: Season 1 (over 28%), Afro Samurai: Season One (over 23%) and The Nightmare Before Christmas, with over 16% sales on Blu-ray. For Nightmare Before Christmas it should be noted that as well as the new Blu-ray release there was also a new DVD release.

Heroes: Season 2 garnered 8% on Blu-ray, The Scorpion King 2 just over 7% and What Happens in Vegas just under 4%.
