Market Share Down But Revenue Up For the Week Ending August 24th

hmm06.jpgThe latest Home Media Magazine is reporting that the Blu-ray Disc revenue for the week ending August 24th was up 14.25% over the previous week, with just over $7M for the week.

At the same time, the market share versus DVD for the top 20 was down to 6%.

The top seller for the week was the new Fox release Street Kings.

Other new releases that did well in the charts included Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete First Season in 2nd place, The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior in 3rd, Hannah Montana: Best of Both Worlds Concert in 4th, while Camp Rock took 7th and Prom Night was in 8th place.

In the per title market share chart the surprise winner was Gone in 60 Seconds, with two thirds of the units shifted on Blu-ray Disc - I can only assume due to promotional pricing somewhere.

Other titles doing well against their DVD counterparts included Beowulf, with almost 60 percent sales on Blu-ray, Underworld Evolution and Starship Troopers in the 40% range, and Casino Royale and Top Gun in the 30% range.

For the new releases, Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles did very well, selling over 17% on Blu-ray Disc.

Other releases didn’t do quite as well - Street Kings came in just over 9%, The Scorpion King 2 at just under 7%, Hannah Montana and Prom Night around 4%, and Camp Rock at 1.4%.

Actually I am quite surprised that Hannah Montana managed 4% - I guess that the Blu-ray demographic could be slowly shifting into family circles after all!
