NEC Electronics has announced the first single chip solution for Blu-ray Players, code named EMMA 3PF.

Sample quantities will ship in September, so I doubt these chips will make the holiday season, but certainly expect an impact into 2009.

The new chip has a multi core CPU and supports BD Live profile players.

Having an all in one solution should allow for high performance in a smaller and cheaper package - characteristics one would expect to be passed on to the players that use them.
