Market Share Up Slightly for the Week Ending July 27th

Last week was a slightly better week for Blu-ray Disc in both Market Share and Revenue according to Home Media Magazine.
For the Blu-ray versus DVD top 20 titles, Blu-ray Disc secured 9% market share, up a point over the previous week. The revenue of $8M was up 5% over the previous week.
The top 20 chart held few surprises. 21 beat Batman Begins to take the top spot. Universal Pictures enjoyed third place with The Mummy, 5th place with The Mummy Returns and 8th place with The Scorpion King. I am sure that they are enjoying being in the Hidef charts again. Other recent releases in the top 10 included The Bank Job, 10,000 B.C., Vantage Point and the Batman Begins Limited Edition Gift Set. Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series remains an impressive seller, taking 7th place.
The Perfect Storm easily won first place on the per title market share chart, with an incredible 85% Blu-ray share for the week, now that it has finally hit the Blu-ray shelves.
The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King also did well with roughly 50 to 60 percent of the sales in the Blu-ray format.
Earth: The Biography and Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series are both in the high thirties for market share while Batman Begins sells around a quarter on Blu-ray, with DVD sales also no doubt fueled by the recent Dark Knight release.
Recent Day and Date releases in the 10 to 15 percent range include The Bank Job, Jumper, 10,000 B.C. and Vantage Point. I am pleased to see that The Bank Job is doing well - it was one of my personal favourites so far this year.
The weeks highest profile title, 21, just fell short of the weekly top 20 statistic with 7.7% market share.
