Sony Electronics President Talks About Blu-ray Disc

sonybdps350_s550.jpgOver at TWICE I see a new report of an interview with Stan Glasgow, President of Sony Electronics. The article discusses a number of technologies including Blu-ray Disc.

Regarding Blu-ray, when asked if the format has taken a lower profile now that the format war is over, Glasgow responded, “I feel it is just a perception by the press. Demand for Blu-ray product is far higher than the actual supply … so we are all gearing up [production]. We can’t keep up with demand.”

He added that in the second half there will be significant Blu-ray introductions and promotions from Sony and other suppliers. Of course we already know that Sony intends to introduce their networkable players, the S350 and S550, in the near future.

Apparently Blu-ray video recorders will not be on the drawing board for this year, but when asked about them, Glasgow said, “I see it in the future … [but] the cost of the drive has to come down dramatically. You will see products in the not too distant future that will record on Blu-ray in a simplified fashion.”

Sounds like we have some interesting products to look forward to later this year and next.
