Import Watch: Xploited Cinema Winds Down Importing Operation
Posted in International Releases, News on July 7th, 2008 by Dave
While we tend to encourage the personal importation of Blu-ray titles from the likes of Amazon.co.uk, amazon.fr and Amazon.de, I know that some prefer to have their discs pre-imported, at a known US Dollar value. To that end, the Xploited Cinema site has been a common source for all the foreign goodies.
Sadly I heard today that Xploited intends to wind down their operation. They report on their website that “we will be carrying less new releases and not re-ordering older catalog titles.”
They are not going out of business immediately but have made it known that they are winding things down somewhat - they will of course meet any and all current obligations.
We wish these guys well - as a great fan of foreign cinema myself I think it is great that they have helped get the discs to the people since the turn of the century.

Ouch this is not good news, these guys were my favorite when it came to importing HD DVDs. Do you think the end of the format war may have had something to do with this?

I don’t think so - the way it reads they are just sick of it.
It appears that they do a lot more business in DVD than HD so I would be surprised if they were influenced by HD DVD’s demise … unless it left them with a lot of unwanted stock.
