Improved Audio Filtering with New Blu-ray Stats Database
Posted in Blu-ray Stats Features on July 1st, 2008 by Dave
A couple of improvements were added when the new database went online a couple of days ago.
The first is improved audio filtering. Now when you filter for a given selection you will see everything that matches, instead of only exact matches - this is especially useful for filtering on ‘Lossless’ - a term that covers LPCM, DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby True HD discs. You can also filter on 24 bit and 6.1 or 7.1 channels, seeing all audio codecs that satisfy the match.
Soon I hope to have a stats page that centers around the audio specifications, allowing flexible filtering - with the new database structure, there are many more options open for generating more creative filtering moving forward.
While the studios have been condensed down to just the majors, there is also a ’sub-studio’ logged that notes the division of the major that it i part of - ie, BBC is a sub-studio of Warner, and so is New Line. I am working on creating a giant pie chart that covers all of the sub-studios as well as the majors - it will be really interesting to see how that comes out!
Hopefully these additions will make the site more fun moving forward. Feel free to make requests for new features in comments.

Hello,
Would it be too much trouble to add to your FILTER the aspect ratio (s) of the movies?
That would help out alot because right now you have to choose a movie just to find out later that it’s in a format your not interested in!
Thanks and Great Job!

With the layout of the new database it should be possible to filter on most fields - aspect ratio is a good suggestion.
My goal for the stats page is to expand to many pages with different focus - like one for audio, one for technical, one for director/year/IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes etc. And an advanced one that includes all of the available filters.
Of course that all takes time, and suggestions like yours help me prioritize. Thanks!
