Blu Raspberry Award: Heathers - 20th High School Reunion Edition

Posted in Commentary, Studios on June 13th, 2008 by Dave

heathers.jpgWell, it is that time of week again - the time I gripe about some new release on DVD that we will not get to see in High Definition.

This week’s Blu Raspberry goes to Anchor Bay / Starz for their upcoming release of Heathers on DVD only, which ships July 1st.

While we appreciate the efforts that Starz has put into their Blu-ray efforts to date, surely Heathers is one of their more popular titles - the kind of thing that people would want to revisit in High Definition.

Consider this - people who were affected by Heathers 20 years ago as ‘young people’ are now well established citizens with a decent job and enough income to buy their favourite ‘formative years’ movies on Blu-ray Disc!

Come on Starz - this was an ideal opportunity to get this classic out on Blu-ray! We know you can do it!

There’s a reason I’d never want to see this in High Definition. An ex-girlfriend was named after this film and always felt the need to tell me that constantly… Never had a desire to see it. But you’re totally right Dave! Anchor Bay/Starz has so many titles to choose from… ESPECIALLY HORROR! Evil Dead, Night of the Living Dead (if they wanted to, no real rights on that film), Re-Animator, etc. etc. etc.

I dare them to release this and the films I just mentioned! Starz if you’re reading this, get on the ball! :)

It is odd that the original Evil Dead has not been done when Evil Dead II is out - an addition Blu Raspberry for Starz! Of course, it is a 16 mm original - that hasn’t stopped the Texas Chainsaw coming to BD!

BTW, while I haven’t see it in a while, Heathers is one of those must see movies … maybe it is just me… :D
