Universal Brings Scorpion King 2 Direct to Blu-ray Disc, More Budget Releases

The Universal Pictures release of Scorpion King 2 will be released direct to video including Blu-ray Disc.A prequel to the Scropion King movie, Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior tells the story of the teenage warrior Mathayus and his quest for justice and honor against the evil and powerful King Sargon.

Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior will be released by Universal Studios on August 19th, 2008. Retail is set at $39.98, pre-order at Amazon for only $27.95.

There are also a couple of new budget titles announced from Platinum Disc. Supernova is scheduled August 12th, 2008. The retail price will be $13.98, only $8.95 at Amazon.

Platinum Disc will also be releasing Ten Commandments on Blu-ray Disc on August 12th. Again the retail is set at $13.98, pre-order at Amazon for only $8.95.

Just on the Blu Ray bandwagon and already planning direct 2 dvd releases?

It has been clear for quite some time that there are much better sales for ‘day and date’ releases than with titles that are already out on DVD, almost regardless of the ‘quality’ of the title.

I expect that we will see ‘new’ releases percentages on BD vs DVD increase faster than catalog.
