Walmart Extends Blu-ray Support

Posted in Retailers on June 3rd, 2008 by Dave

walmart.jpgWe read over at Video Business that Walmart plans to extend its support of Blu-ray Disc by launching new dedicated sections in 1,200 outlets, and offering $100 store gift cards with Blu-ray player purchases in June.

The new ‘Hi-Def Blu-ray Experience Area’ will offer an increased selection of Blu-ray titles and new models of Blu-ray players from manufacturers like Magnavox, Samsung and Panasonic. Wal-Mart previously focused on Sony Blu-ray players.

Walmart will hand out $100 gift cards to anyone who purchases a Blu-ray player from June 8 through June 14 - discounted titles like 3:10 to Yuma, 300, War, Shooter and The Fifth Element will also feature that week.

The $100 gift card makes the Maganvox player effectively sub-$200 - quite a temptation for the bargain hunter!

wow, Wally World finally is starting to realize “those Blue movies” actually have an audience. I Live here in TN where we have the true definition of white trash working at our local Wal-Mart(s) and it’s a pain in the ass to go in there and look for or ask about Blu-ray… their jaws drop, they start to droll and stare at you and not have a clue what you’re saying. It’s sad. Plus they’re notorious for putting stuff out before it’s supposed to be out or never putting it out… it’s one of the two

To be honest I don’t recall the last time I was in a Walmart it was that long ago. The store local to me is a mess at best, and it is pretty far - Costco, Frys, Target and Best Buy are all a lot closer…
