The first Blu-ray discs to be released by Universal Home Video, the Mummy series, will come out one week before their first Day and Date title Doomsday.

All three titles The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King are being released on July 22nd, 2008 with a retail price set at $29.98. You can pre-order these titles at Amazon for only $20.95 each.

The discs will feature the same extras as the HD DVDs including four featurettes an audio commentary tracks. New to the Blu-ray, perhaps to entice the double dip from HD DVD owners, will be lossless audio with DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks and U-Control picture-in-picture interviews and behind the scenes footage.

All in all it looks like Universal is pretty serious about their Blu-ray releases, with a nice set of features for catalogue titles and pricing in line with other studios for catalogue and Day and Date releases. Personally I am most pleased that the have opted for lossless audio from the start and I am looking forward to seeing how these discs stack up.
