Paramount Watch March 20, 2008 - Amazon Discounts Some Paramount Blu-ray Titles 63%

Posted in Amazon Bargains, Studios on March 20th, 2008 by Dave

wts.jpgIn an interesting move, Amazon has discounted three of the theoretically discontinued Paramount/DreamWorks titles by 63%, selling them for only $14.95 down from $39.99. The titles are World Trade Center, Dreamgirls and Reds. Currently 13 of the discontinued Paramout/DreamWorks titles remain available at Amazon.

One has to wonder why they would heavily discount what must be a limited quantity of discs - perhaps they are clearing the way for new versions of these titles? The silence with respect to future plans from Paramount regarding their future has only caused an increase in rumour and speculation. Hopefully they will help settle things with format announcements of their plans soon.

It’s also worth noting that Blu-ray versions of recent Paramount titles like “There Will Be Blood” and “Transformers” started showing up as “items coming soon” on Amazon.com, albeit without specific release dates.

It is also interesting to look to Amazon UK where we see Paramount titles like Zoolander and Drillbit Taylor listed for BD release in July. While Amazon has not been the most reliable of sources for this kind of thing, these listings have withstood ‘the test of time’ and the various Paramount announcements. I guess if/when we see box art posted we will have a stronger confidence that these are for real.
